Exide Technologies Lithium Application Engineer Can Bus Specialist in Milton, Georgia

Overview

The Lithium Application Engineer (CANbus Specialist) is responsible for the completion of lithium product related projects through the use of hardware and software engineering tools, applications and basic principles. The Engineer is also responsible for responding to customer requests (internal and external,) for technical information relating to lithium batteries, chargers, and their application. Most assignments will directly relate to developing proper CANbus communication interface of chargers, lithium battery BMS and lift truck instrumentation. Significant effort on similar assignments regarding CANbus interface of AGV sysems to lithium battery BMS.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as the stand alone subject matter expert for CANbus applications and various CANbus protocol interfaces.

  • Complete and document assigned projects through application of basic engineering principles, tools and theories.

  • Initiate or revise specifications, deviations, drawings and proposals as needed in the course of problem resolution.

  • Provide technical assistance and training to sales, service, marketing, customers, and plant/laboratory personnel.

  • Develop and execute test plans to fulfill requests for product and application information.

  • Recommend/assist in the development and testing of new products to support lithium customer applications.

  • Perform and monitor field evaluations of new lithium products and components. Document and report field data.

  • Recommend design changes to lithium battery and charger systems to improve the product performance and life.

  • Develop and implement guidelines for the proper sale and application of lithium products.

  • Perform review of customer’s operations to aid in proper product use and improve customer satisfaction.

  • Collect, analyze and interpret data to understand customer applications.

  • Perform application analysis on customer site to support sales, marketing, and lithium product warranty.

  • Provide product application training to sales force and customers. Assist in the development of training materials.

  • Generate ideas leading to cost reduction and product or process improvement.

  • Extensive direct customer interface – must have professional manner and strong verbal communication skills

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering or Technical Field plus minimum 8 years experience in engineering, testing or product development environment. Extensive hands-on CANbus experience a must.

  • Two to four years industrial experience, with lithium battery experience preferred

  • Must be comfortable and competent working with high energy systems (480V AC, 30Kw battery systems)

Competencies, Skills, Knowledge:

Language Skills:

  • Ability to write detailed technical reports concerning any assigned project work

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good record keeping and documentation skills.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups, and to communicate professionally with customers

PC Software Knowledge:

  • Above average computer knowledge in Windows environment. Prefer coding experience and/or several courses during advanced education.

Physical Demands:

  • Hearing, speaking, seeing, writing, standing, lifting (50 lbs), sitting, bending, walking, and carrying

Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment and frequent field and factory visits where there is some exposure to lead, acid, fumes, dirt, and noise

Travel, other requirements:

  • Domestic Travel within the US – typical 25-30%

  • Additional occasional international travel - once or twice annually for 5-8 day durations
